This family action-adventure story features Abigail Breslin as Nim, a girl who lives on a deserted, secret island with her father.

Nim immerses herself in reading and when her father is lost at sea, she writes to Alex Rover, the hero of her favourite stories, and asks for help.

But Alex is not a hero, in fact she is a writer of fiction who must fight her fear of the outside if she is to travel around the world to help Nim fight against dark forces and search for her missing father.
