Overview

Sherlock, Stock and Barrel Bank Holiday Weekend

This May Bank Holiday the Royal Armouries will be bringing an intriguing weekend of murder mysteries, concealed weapons and forensic science to its Leeds museum.

The Sherlock, Stock and Barrel weekend will give visitors a chance to discover the true facts and science behind Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous Sherlock Holmes adventures.

Activities will include a mystery trail, film screenings, demonstrations of the eclectic martial art ‘Bartitsu’ stick and cane fighting, plus storytelling and a brand new theatrical performance inspired by one of the great detective’s lost cases

The museum will be open from 10am-5pm on Saturday 29th April – Monday 1st May, with events running throughout the weekend.

Rachael Bevan, Events Manager at the Royal Armouries, said: “We’re really excited to be hosting a Sherlock Holmes themed bank holiday weekend. With the popularity of Conan Doyle’s eponymous character in TV and film, the adventures of Mr Holmes have very much captured the nation’s imagination.

“By exploring the weapons and defence styles used during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, we hope to highlight a different side to these famous stories.”

Other activities will include:

Conan Doyle's First World War Campaign

Drawing on original letters and papers in the Royal Armouries collection, discover how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle took on the Government in an effort to save the lives of British servicemen in the First World War.
