Who’s up for an adventure? Directed by BRAD PEYTON (Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore), JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND is loosely based on the Jules Verne’s novel The Mysterious Island and stars DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON (Fast and Furious 5, The Scorpion King), MICHAEL CAINE (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception), JOSH HUTCHERSON (The Hunger Games, Journey to the Center of the Earth), VANESSA HUDGENS (High School Musical franchise, Sucker Punch), LUIZ GUZMAN (Carlito’s Way, Boogie Nights) and KRISTIN DAVIS (Sex and the City, Couples Retreat).

JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND follows the adventures of Sean Anderson (HUTCHERSON), (reprising his role from the first film) after he receivesa coded distress signal from a mysterious location where no island should exist. It’s a place of giant creatures, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (JOHNSON), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (GUZMAN) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (HUDGENS) they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

Who is this film suitable for?  All the family

Having watched the trailer for Journey 2: The Mystery Island, we were expecting something similar to Jurassic Park. After we had seen the film, we realised that although it is of the same genre as Spielberg’s classic, this film was definitely not a JP wanabee. Journey 2: The Mystery Island has its own charms to offer, such as a star-studded cast, a crazily fast pace which kids will love, and some unpretentious, plain and simple silly humour.

What the grown-ups say:
This film was good family fun on a Saturday afternoon. The dialogue was a bit corny and to be honest we couldn’t keep up with the story line at times! But it did make us laugh, especially the rivalry between The Rock’s and Michael Caine’s characters. Also it was nice to see a kids film with some modern family models – it wasn’t all based on ‘mum dad and 2.5 children. All in all a good 90 minutes of family entertainment which left us pleasantly surprised, and the kids loved it!

What the kids say:
This film was excellent! My favourite part was the giant lizard and the grandpa and Hank were really funny. I would definitely watch it again.
