Camping in Mosel Valley

Mosel Valley Camping

The river Mosel flows for 195km from Trier to Koblenz, creating the beautiful Mosel Valley. You’ll find stunning scenery at every turn, with hilltop castles, medieval villages and vine-covered slopes.

The area is full of wonderful walking trails to explore the banks and hillsides, where you’ll find Europe’s steepest vineyard! The area is famous for its wines, as well as its thermal springs and baths. It’s a stunning area, perfect for a relaxing family holiday.

Things to do while you’re camping in the Mosel Valley

In the heart of the most picturesque part of the Mosel Valley is the town of Trier, which has numerous well-preserved Roman attractions. The fortified gate of Porta Nigra is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Roman Imperial Baths are the largest in Europe. There’s also a great Archaeological Museum, with stunning Roman mosaics and the world’s largest hoard of Roman gold coins. In Cochem, considered to be one of the most attractive towns in the region, you’ll find the massive hilltop castle of Reichsburg Cochem. Fun themed tours for the family are available, along with events and themed meal packages for the kids in the on-site restaurant.

Whilst you’re in Cochem, be sure to take a ride on the Sesselbahn. This chairlift ascends to a height of 155m and you can travel up in a cabin or open double chair. And over on the Erbeskopf Mountain, you can try your hand at the toboggan run – stretching down over 1,356 metres.

For active kids, take a trip to the Eifelpark theme park in Gondorf, complete with rollercoasters, chutes and a ‘kids’ world’ for younger children. Or there’s the Klotten wildlife and leisure park with animals galore and plenty to keep the kids busy, such as large trampolines, merry-go-rounds, a cable car, rubber dinghy water slide and a rollercoaster. And the whole family will enjoy Mont Royal climbing forest – a spectacular playground full of ropes, beams and obstacles.

How to get to Mosel Valley

The closest airport to the region is in fact Luxembourg, which is only 32km from Trier. Fly there with British Airways or Cityjet. Alternatively you can take the Eurostar via Brussels and then onto Luxembourg. There is a good train and bus network to transport you around the region.
