Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park's OPEN HOUSE is now in full swing, and to celebrate on 4th July, Hyde Park opened its door for a Major League Baseball Battlegrounds extravaganza.


After a hugely successful sold-out first weekend, including headlining shows by Phil CollinsGreen Day and Justin Bieber, Open House held their first ever MLB event, with over 20'000 people visiting the park.


The sporting extravaganza saw some of America’s biggest US baseball legends, including Carlos Peña, Cliff Floyd and Shawn Green take part in a quick-fire, big-hitting format of the sport which guest starred England cricket hitters Jos Buttler and Alex Hales. 

Fans from across the capital swarmed in to witness the first ever MLB Battlegrounds takeover. Winning team, LA Dodgers were represented by Federico Celli, Shawn Green, Karla Claudio, England cricketer Alex Hales and captained by all-star Cliff Floyd. 


Boston Red Sox team featured Gary Davidson, Julsan Karma, Taylor Hoagland, England cricketer Jos Buttler, and captained by Carlos Peña.Federico Celli was the star of the night and awarded the MVP due to his outstanding performance on the night.

England cricket stars Jos Buttler and Alex Hales put in a respectful performance having picked up a baseball bat for the first time competitively, delivering a combined 15 home runs between them.


Gaming fans were able to take part in a world-exclusive VR baseball experience, MLB Battlefields VR, using tech from world-leaders HTC VIVE™, Dell Precision, and Altec Lansing where they will pick a side and step into the boots of a slugger in Dodger Stadium or Fenway Park.

The Open House fun doesn't end here. Tomorrow, world-renowned fitness star, TV presenter and author Joe Wicks AKA The Body Coach will attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the largest high-intensity interval training class(currently standing at 3,687 people!) All proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. 


Also on the agenda for a mega midweek in Hyde Park is... outdoor movie nights, tennis screenings live from Wimbledon, street food stalls from all over the world, pop up bars serving draft & craft beer, wine & cocktails, live music and entertainment, flying trapeze circus, the Moretti Gran Tour, Soho Radio live broadcasting, Chickenshed Theatre and much, much more.


So there's still time to enjoy the host activities bringing a true taste of summer to your week, all at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park.


The Barclaycard Playground

Welcoming young and old (and everything in-between), rediscover your playful side at the Barclaycard Playground. See the sights from the giant slide, climb to the top, take in the view and be king of the castle all over again, then slide back down to earth (which is a giant ball pit, obviously). Fly through the air on the bungee trampolines, play hide and seek in the giant room of balloons, and when you’ve worked up an appetite, Pizza Express will be there to give you a boost. Rest tired feet on a see-saw seat and when you’re all played-out, catch your breath on the swings & roundabout.


Outdoor Cinema

Following the huge demand for the open-air film nights over the past two years, Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park is hosting four evenings of frivolous film fun on one of the biggest outdoor screens in London. Two films will be shown each evening at 6pm and 8.30pm.

Tennis Screenings

Want to watch the tennis outdoors this summer without tickets to the world's most famous tennis tournament? Join us for FREE Wimbledon Championship screenings from 12pm onwards during Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park’s OPEN HOUSE. Show Andy Murray & co some support for an afternoon in Hyde Park.

Wednesday 5th July - London Gay Men’s Chorus, plus Old Dirty Brasstards

The incredible London Gay Men’s Chorus return to OPEN HOUSE for a second year to entertain and inspire through their diverse and impressive repertoire. Performing renditions of anything from The Beatles to Lady Gaga, Old Dirty Brasstards will also be taking to the stage; a 10-piece outfit that can often be found commanding the crowds at the likes of Bestival, Glastonbury and Lattitude.


Friday 7th July - Soho Radio presents The Cuban Brothers plus special guests

Soho Radio will be hosting The Barclaycard Stage on Friday 7th July from 4pm onwards, with performances from The Cuban Brothers, The Curious, Mary Epworth, Little Barrie, Young Gun Silver Fox, and the Soho Radio All Stars Feat. Baby Bam, Terri Walker and Hamish Stuart. This is sure to be a showcase to remember.


Street Food Market

Prepare to be spoilt for choice at the sensational Street Food Market, running from midday onwards. It’s a chance to traverse the world on a culinary adventure as Sourced Market, pioneers of scrumptious festival fodder, have hand-picked the finest street food traders that London has to offer, catering for a wide range of taste buds and dietary requirements.


This is your chance to try all of the amazing names you might have heard about but never got to visit, all in one central location.


Craft Beer & Cocktail Bars

We have an exciting range of pop up bars selling great refreshments from draft & craft beer to wine, spirits and cocktails – serving from 12pm onwards. Enjoy our finest tipples whilst roam the event’s activities, or simply sit back and relax with a drink in hand.


Moretti Gran Tour

Take your senses on a journey through Sicily, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, and Udine, without even leaving London’s Hyde Park at this year’s Moretti Gran Tour. Go on a multi-sensory journey where you’ll enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and flavours of the regions that inspire Birra Moretti. In each, the experience culminates with a sample ice-cold beer from the Birra Moretti range, and a traditional aperitivo - carefully selected to complement the flavours of the beer. Tickets available soon.


Soho Radio – Broadcasting Live from OPEN HOUSE

Direct from Barclaycard presents British Summer Time, Soho Radio will be taking up residency in Hyde Park and broadcasting live from OPEN HOUSE, with presenters from their eclectic roster providing the soundtrack, including journalist Pete Paphides, Primal Scream bassist Simone Marie and legendary broadcaster Gary Crowley. Awarded Best Online Radio Station in the Mixcloud Online Radio Awards 2016, Soho Radio has grown organically since its beginnings in 2014, gathering talent, legends and support along the way. Inspired by Soho’s diverse culture, the station draws together musicians, artists, filmmakers, poets and the generally curious, from across the globe.


Gorilla Circus Flying Trapeze School and Altitude Show

Ever wanted to join the circus? Now you can give it a try and climb a 30 feet ladder for your first flying trapeze lesson with Gorilla Circus Flying Trapeze School. The only outdoor flying trapeze school in the UK is back for a third year at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park.


But never fear - if you don’t fancy trying it for yourself, just relax and enjoy ‘Altitude’, their free circus spectacular show on Wednesday evening!


Chickenshed Theatre

Renowned theatre company Chickenshed will be returning to Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park in July with performances of its acclaimed and highly popular children’ s show Tales from the Shed – all completely free of charge, and bigger than ever!


Performance dates and times: Wednesday 5 July – 10.30am, 12pm and 1.30pm


Each show lasts 50-60 minutes


The show is suitable for all children, up to the age of 6. There is no charge for the shows, but schools tickets must be reserved in advance via the Chickenshed Box Office – please email to confirm your place.
