Peter Heald, Director of Yorkshire Farmers’ Markets, said “We are delighted to work with Make It York to bring back a quality Farmers’ Market to York. Yorkshire Farmers Markets were featured in the top five Farmers’ Markets in the UK by the Sunday Times and we see this as an opportunity to build on the superb reputation York has for its fresh market produce.”
Julie Shearman, Church View Farm Eggs, said, “We’re seeing an increase in people buying fresh eggs straight from the farm, especially after the success of Bake Off! Everyone wants to bake like Mary Berry! There’s no better place to buy your local produce than the regular farmers’ market and we’re looking forward to making this new market a brilliant success. Our saying is that ‘we don’t have customers, we have friends who buy eggs’ and we love telling our customers about different eggs you can buy and what you can cook with them.”
Chris Price, City Centre and Markets Manager, said, “This new monthly market will complement the Shambles Market as well as the new Shambles Food Court, offering hot street food to enjoy with friends . We’re delighted to be bringing a monthly Farmers’ Market back to York and confident that this will be popular with residents and visitors alike.”
