Free Family engineering and science based days at 5 locations across the West Midlands this half term in February.
Family Engineering Days
Help support your children’s aspirations for a career in automotive engineering by taking part in one of our Family Engineering Days, part of a Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious project. Aimed at Year 7, 8, 9 students, these events give you and your children the opportunity to see how studying STEM subjects could potentially enhance their career prospects.
How Family Engineering Days work
Held at five locations around the West Midlands, graduate engineers and apprentices from automotive companies such as Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover will hold a Family Engineering Day for up to 60 Year 7, 8, 9 students and a parent/guardian. Each Family Engineering Day will last approximately two and a half hours and be run during either the morning or afternoon.
Student and parent involvement
With the aim of bringing the STEM experience to families, parents/guardians are invited to take part and help their children with an automotive based challenge that is designed to be fun and educational for all involved. In addition, five lucky students at each Family Engineering Day will be awarded a place on the Automotive Engineering 3-day residential course at Coventry University worth £210. Terms and Conditions apply.
Supporting the National Curriculum
Family Engineering Day activities are designed to complement the National Curriculum in science, technology, engineering and maths by demonstrating the link between what’s taught in the classroom with the wider world. They are especially beneficial for students in the process of choosing their GCSE options.
Our Family Engineering Days are FREE.
Family Engineering Days are supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering under the Ingenious Awards scheme, an award scheme that supports and funds the most creative and impactful projects that engage the public with engineers and engineering.
Students and parents/guardians get information about future career and HE/FE (higher education/further education) options in order to pursue a career in engineering and gain awareness of local engineering opportunities. Students will improve their engineering skills and have their eyes opened to the many opportunities beyond school. Parents/guardians get
to understand about the role of engineering in today’s society to enable them to fully support and nurture their children’s aspirations for the future.
