What to do with the kids in Teesside and beyond

Looking to get out and about with the family this weekend? We’ve put together a list of local Teesside events so you don’t have to! There’s lots going on in the region, but it’s worth bearing in mind that some of these events are outdoors so do check that they’re still running if the weather turns typically British and wet.

 

Friday 26th 

 

Summer Sound: Tribute Music Festival – Guisborough Priory, Guisborough, 5pm – 11pm

The festival kicks off on Friday afternoon with a 70s and 80s disco party, with fancy dress encouraged! There are tribute acts to CHIC, Abba, Madonna and Prince, with today’s event being suited to older kids and teenagers. Click here for details

 

Alice in Wonderland – RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate, 6pm

Don’t be late for a very important date! This fantastic musical is sure to appeal to the whole family, with all the characters from Alice in Wonderland brought vividly to life. Follow Alice and the White Rabbit as they meet the Queen of Hearts, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. Kids are also encouraged to come dressed up, and they can even meet the characters before the show. Click here for details

 

Saturday 27th July

 

Summer Sound: Tribute Music Festival – Guisborough Priory, Guisborough, 3pm – 11pm 

Saturday’s edition of the festival is a more family friendly affair, with a Rock and Pop theme and tributes to Queen, Take That, Bon Jovi, UB40, Bruno Mars and Jess Glynne. There are also festival stalls, street entertainers, fireworks, a food village and licensed bars for the adults in the family! Click here for details

 

We Love 90s On The Beach – Majuba Beach, Redcar, 2pm – 11pm

Teenagers and their families are sure to enjoy dancing on the beach with some great retro acts from the 90s, including Atomic Kitten, 5ive, S Club 7 and Gareth Gates. There’s also a dance arena playing out all the anthems and classics of the era. Click here for details

 

Cleveland Show – Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, 9am – 5pm

The Cleveland Show is the biggest one-day agricultural show in the North East, but there’s absolutely masses to cram into the day. The main arena is hosting motocross and bicycle stunt shows, as well as amazing gun dogs and classes for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets and many more. You can bring your own dog to enter into the fun scurry challenge, listen to live music or try your hand at the army assault course. There’s a dedicated fun zone for the kids, with children’s competitions, a fun fair and even an interactive mobile farm with ride on tractors and Daisy the dairy cow. Click here for details

 

Safari: Family Fun Weekend – Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough, 11am

Celebrate the opening of the Safari exhibition with an event aimed entirely at the kids. Try your hand at African drumming and bushcrafts, listen to the Explorer storyteller and help to fill the jungle themed education room with birds, insects, flowers and animals. Click here for details

 

Butterwick’s Food and Drink Festival – Preston Park, Stockton-on-Tees, 2pm – 10pm

With music from local bands and singers, delicious food and drink stalls and demonstrations, as well as a tombola and raffle, this festival is a lovely way to spend a few peaceful hours with the family, as well as supporting Butterwick Hospice Care. Click here for details

 

Alice in Wonderland – RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate, 6pm

Another chance to catch this lovely family friendly musical.

 

RSPB Saltholme’s Big Wild Sleepout - RSPB Saltholme, Stockton-on-Tees, 5pm Saturday – 9am Sunday

The Big Wild Sleepout is a unique opportunity for families to spend the night camping under the stars and watching the wonderful nocturnal wildlife. The event includes fun nature activities, a guided twilight walk and, of course, the opportunity to sit round the campfire and toast marshmallows! Click here for details

 

Orange Pip July Edition - Middlesbrough, 12pm – 7pm

If you’re visiting the Orange Pip market this Saturday, you’ll find love music in edition to all the lovely stalls, as well as art displays, yoga and salsa! Click here for details

 

Summer Family Funday - Brambles Farm Social Club, Middlesbrough, 12pm – 5pm

The younger members of the family will love this funday with the chance to play on massive inflatables and kids rides. They can meet mascot characters and enjoy a treat at the slush and sweet stalls and there’s also a dedicated toddlers play area for the under 5s. Click here for details

 

Hartlepool Maritime Market Foodie Special – National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool, 10am – 3pm

The museum makes a fantastic day out all on its own, but the foodie festival will add in a lot of extra treats for the family. As well as plenty of food and drink to try out, there are also local craft and gift stalls, live music and plenty of activities to keep the little ones entertained. Click here for details

 

Harrogate Indoor Funfair – Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate, 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 5pm

For families who love the thrill of the fairground, this indoor funfair is a fantastic place to go when the weather is being typically British! Tickets cost £10 and you can then ride as much as you can for 3 hours! Click here for details

 

Billingham Town Council Family Fun Day – John Whitehead Park, Billington, Stockton-on-Tees, 11am – 3pm

This fun packed family day out offers live music and entertainment and plenty for the kids to get stuck into, including face painting, arts and crafts and the chance to learn some circus skills! Click here for details

 

Sunday 28th July

 

Breakfast with Peter Rabbit and Friends – Flamingoland Resort, Malton, York, 9am – 10.30am

What could be more exciting for your little ones than the chance to sit down for breakfast with their favourite characters from Peter Rabbit? They’re sure to be captivated! And, of course, once you’re at the venue, Flamingoland is the most family friendly theme park to spend the rest of the day at! Click here for details

 

Darlington by the Sea – Darlington Market Square, Darlington, 11am – 5pm

Can’t make it to the beach? No worries! This event brings the beach experience to Darlington, with tonnes of play sand alongside street theatre and entertainment throughout the day. Click here for details
