Design Quest: Making a Community at RIBA
22nd February 2019
What does it mean to be part of a community? How can architecture bring people together? Inspired by case-studies in our forthcoming exhibition, we will explore these questions and build a large-scale creative response to them.
Working in small groups, children aged 6 to 10 can explore the different ways in which people interact, then develop designs for a life-sized structure that facilitates this interaction. Will we design a space for the city, a park, a place by the sea or the edge of a forest?
Our designs will be informed by the variety of materials on offer and we will need to work out how to manipulate them in order to create and build in 3D. The final structures will be part architectural model and part art installation, incorporating moving image and sounds that show how our invention will work in practice.
This creative architecture workshop is led by educator Daniel Wallis for children aged 6-10.
