The Loxwood Joust
Loxwood Joust is a fantastic family fun day out of mediaeval revelry and mayhem. Watch as your young knights and princesses revel in the Masked Executioner’s gory tales of torture; jump every time the cannons fire and let tales of past battles capture their imaginations. Will they help the Knight Marshall to control his knights and notice their bad behaviour in the all action jousting tournament? And, which will be their favourite, have-a-go archery, sword school, pelt the peasant or getting up close to the graceful high-flying hawks?
Out and about in the recreated mediaeval battle camp there will be fully armoured knights showing what life was like at that time. Traders and hawkers will be selling a range of specialist goods in the mediaeval market place and companies of wandering minstrels will keep you entertained with plays, singing and dancing. You won’t forget the memorable antics of the bright “Sir Lancelot the Bald” resplendent in tights and in the den of the Witches, complete with their black smoking cauldron, be prepared to be bewildered or enlightened by their strange and arcane delights.
Venture to the Woodland Stage to hear the Mediaeval Baebes’ sing romantic songs of chivalry, love and loss. Listen as the Medieval Housewife presents to you the dirty laundry of the Middle Ages, the Executioner discusses the art of torture, and The Copper Pot Cook unveils the myths of mediaeval cookery.
And there also are plenty of opportunities to sup fine ales and dine on local organic fayre.
Open from 10am to 6pm at Loxwood Meadow, West Sussex. Most excellently located just off the B2133 between Wisborough Green and Loxwood, there is ample free parking or a minibus service from Billingshurst railway station.
