Happy Holiday Family Workshops at The Point
25th July - 29th August 2019
Blast off through time and space with our amazing artists for space-themed adventures inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing!
There are lots of workshops on offer, from fun filled interstellar music jams to creating out of this world clay aliens. So come along, take part and explore space together this summer!
Workshops are every Thursday in the school summer holidays for children aged 5-11+
Space Comic Strips with artist Jim Medway - 25 July
Join comic artist Jim Medway to make a fun space comic together. Learn the basic skills through fun drawing games and activities, then work together on creating crazy space comics to take home with you.
Rocket Printing with artist Samantha Groom - 1 August
Print your own freestanding rocket to take home. You will learn how to use stamp printing to create your own freestanding rocket to zoom to your bedroom!
Sculpture planets with musician Nick Lewis - 8 August
Create simple sculptural planets using conductive materials and then make your own micro musical themes for each planet. A fantastic opportunity to play with music technology!
Clay Aliens with artist Angie Hardwick - 15 August
Play a game to help you design an amazing alien! How many heads or eyes will it have? Will it have tentacles or spikes? Will it be skinny or huge? Does have bumpy or patterned skin? What colour will it be? Then you can create your creature using air drying clay using modelling techniques, imprinting and applying skills. Take your alien home!
Interstellar Space Jam with musician Rob Pearson - 22 August
Blast off through time and space with the guidance of DJ and producer Rob Pearson and take part in a creative and fun filled interstellar music jam with other likeminded sound explorers. You will get the chance to create some unique out of this world futuristic music with your newly formed space crew at The Point. Help Rob Co-Pilot our space station of sounds and get hands on with midi controllers, drum pads and a variety other music tech gear. Rotate around the hi-tech terminals and have a go at some of the different interfaces. Maybe even add some vocals that get turned into a robot or space creature! We will produce a unique soundscape together launching futuristic instruments, Sci-Fi sounds and vocal phrases and weave these into a space themed musical masterpiece. No musical experience is necessary and you can take away the group music created together in the session.
Musical Alien Messages with musician Dyzelle Sutherland - 29 August
Our poor alien is stranded and far from home. The only way to communicate is through music and sound. Create a piece of music together using incredible, weird and wonderful instruments and music technology to help our poor alien to get back home! We’ll record your final musical messages so you can listen again at home.
