Journey to Rainbow Island by Christie Hsiao
ABOUT THE BOOK
Yu-ning thinks her perfect life on Rainbow Island will never end—until Obsidigon the dragon returns from beyond the grave. Now with her beloved island in flames, she must venture into the dark corners of the world to uncover secrets best ignored, find a weapon thought long destroyed, and recapture seven sacred stones—without being burned to a crisp by a furious dragon.
With the help of her master teacher, Metatron, Yu-ning embarks on a dangerous journey to overcome the evil attacking her home. And while most people just see a normal kid, Metatron—and a few other unlikely allies—pledge their lives to the dark-eyed little girl with a magic bow and a crooked grin.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE KIDS ASK CHRISTIE HSIAO ABOUT THE INSPIRATION BEHIND
THE BOOK AND HER THOUGHTS ON WRITING AND READING FOR CHILDREN...
WTDWTK: What was your inspiration for writing 'Journey to Rainbow Island'?
Christie: I wanted to make more people feel happy and loved.
WTDWTK:Tell us more about Yu-ning - is she based on a real-life character?
Christie: Yu-ning, I see her part in myself, and people around me, actually she’s in each one of us, the purity of love and innocence of a child.
WTDWTK:What advice would you give to young people who are interested in becoming writers?
Christie: Keep writing, never stop. Even when you have writer’s block, just keep writing.
WTDWTK:What advice would you give to parents who want to encourage their children to get into reading?
Christie: I think the best way is to read together with your children. If parents are reading, kids will follow, instead of watching tv and doing something else.
