Jileon wide calf wellies - review
With May at a close, the summer months have arrived at last and we have so much to look forward to. Family festvals, barbecues, days spent in the great outdoors, pimms and strawberries, and not to forget that quintessential ingredient of the British summer season - rain.
In fact, in North Yorkshire, where What To Do With The Kids is based, there has already been a fair amount of rain, which has provided perfect conditions for testing out a pair of wellies sent to us by Jileon for review.
I’d not heard of the Jileon brand before, and found out from their website that they are a small, family-run, online business, established just seven years ago. Jileon was created when the founders identified a gap in the market for wide-calf wellies.
I myself generally find any kind of knee-length boot a bit of a struggle to get over my calf muscles - not that my legs are particularly big, I think sizings are often just a bit skimpy.
The pair sent to me were ‘Plum Wide-Calf Wellies with removable strap’ (as pictured). I would say the colour was more of a deep pink than plum (I consider plum to be a purple shade) but they were lovely, shiny and stylish, and I was excited to try them out. The fit around the leg was perfect for me. They came up slightly bigger on the feet than my size 6, but I would generally only wear wellies with welly socks in any case, which would require a bit of extra room in the boot.
The boots have a synthetic fleece lining - designed for being warm in the winter and comfy in the summer. I was worried they would be a bit warm for the summer months, especially wearing them with an extra pair of socks to compensate for the slightly large sizing - but actually I wore them for a muddy walk in our local hills on a drizzly, muggy day and they were comfortable and not too hot.
My pair of Jileon wellies have a removable ankle strap as an extra style feature, which I love. As well as being pretty, the soles are tough and durable and gave me good grip underfoot in the muddy hills.
What I really like about these wellies is that they manage to be fun and stylish (I’d happily wear them with skinny jeans tucked in or even a dress for a funky festival environment) and yet they are robust and practical. It’s not too difficult to find funky wellies these days for bargain prices, but if you want a pair that can also offer quality at a reasonable price and will last for more than one season, then the range at Jileon are pretty good.
The pair I tried RRPed at £34.99 and have a one year warranty and think this is great value.
If you’d like to bring excitement and colour even to the rainy days this summer, do it with new pairs of wellies for you and the children. I thoroughly recommend a look at the Jileon website.
